I designed the interiors and covers of these three books from beloved Pacific Northwestern author, Stewart H. Holbrook.

James J. Hill

I partially colorized a historic black and white photo of James J. Hill for the cover image of this book in Adobe Photoshop. The train icon on the back cover was created in Adobe Illustrator. The interior was designed in Adobe inDesign.

This cover features another black and white image that I colorized in Adobe Photoshop, and I designed the interior in Adobe inDesign.

I also wrote the back cover description for this title:

From the brick-paved streets of Boston and New England, to the deserts of Arizona, to the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, beloved author and columnist Stewart Holbrook takes his readers down uncharted paths in a series of delightful pieces. Little Annie Oakley and Other Rugged People is pure Americana that delves into the myths of unhackneyed and motley people, and the places they made famous. Interspersed among character bits are rich historical views of places, the author’s own experiences in logging camps, and enthusiastic sketches of the near-extinct Yankee.

The Rocky Mountain Revolution

The cover illustration is from The Masses, a monthly magazine devoted to the interests of the working people, June 1914. (“Illustration shows mine worker firing a gun after his wife and children were killed in a massacre at their tent camp by the Colorado National Guard and Colorado Fuel & Iron Company camp guards.”) I cleaned up the image quality in Adobe Photoshop and created a background that mimics parchment paper for the front and back cover. I designed the interior in Adobe inDesign.
