The book cover was designed in Adobe inDesign, though I did the photo editing in Adobe Photoshop. The text of the title “Denali Ranger” was edited in Adobe Illustrator, since I wanted the effect of the leg of the letter “R” to have a long extension to evoke and height and danger of mountain climbing.

The text of Denali Ranger incorporates numerous photographs Roger Robinson supplied. I also created a “sketchbook-style” motif of Mount Denali to use at each chapter opening, to give the sense of height and impact of the mountain with each transition.

The back cover description was written by me.

Roger Robinson has been a Denali climbing ranger for 36 years, involved with the annual climbing season on Mount McKinley, at 20,320 feet, the tallest mountain in North America. Robinson has climbed the mountain, worked on the mountain, led patrols on the mountain, operated the base camp, met the best climbers in the world, and led rescues that saved lives. Year after year, Robinson has studied the mountain and its climbers, its people, and he has experienced a series of adventures on one of the best-known and formidable mountains in the world, a mountain that for many is the symbol of Alaska, the 49th state.
